About this workshop
Enjoy a fabulous day of playing with fire! Join fellow Valley Potters for this really fun Raku workshop.
Cost: $70 Members - $100 Non-members
Date: Saturday 13th June Location: 31 Silverleaf Place, Healesville VIC What to bring:
5 bisque-fired pots, preferably made of raku clay, no larger than 20cm x 20cm
A mug, bowl and spoon
A plate of food to share for lunch.
We supply morning tea and soup for lunch.
Preparing your work:
Pieces need to be able to withstand the stress of the firing process, and they must be able to be easily handled for placing and removing from kilns. AVOID having small FRAIL appendages and thin sections such as tails and ears etc. These can be broken easily. Burnished surfaces work well and together with textured areas, for contrast, and can achieve interesting results.
What to wear:
Protective clothing (non-flammable) and wet weather gear, suitable footwear for protection and wet, muddy conditions.
What is Raku?
The Raku technique involves removing glazed ceramics from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and then placing them in combustible materials, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colours within the glaze. Watch your pieces transform when they cool down!
