What is Obvara Firing?

Obvara firing is an ancient Eastern European (Baltic) pottery technique where red-hot, bisque-fired pottery (approx. –) is dipped into a fermented mixture of yeast, flour, and sugar. This creates a, toasty, "scorched," and instantly sealed surface with unique, unpredictable, and organic patterns, sometimes known as "Baltic Raku".
