Raku Firing #1

Enjoy a fabulous day of playing with fire! Join fellow Valley Potters for this really fun workshop. We have 2 dates available 6th and 13th September.

Cost: $70 Members - $100 Non-members

Date: 8th September or 15th September

Location: 31 Silverleaf Place, Healesville VIC

What to bring:

• 5 bisque fired pots, preferably made of raku clay, no larger than 20cm x 20cm

• A mug, bowl and spoon

• A plate of food to share for lunch. We supply morning tea and soup for lunch.

What to wear:

• Protective clothing (non-flammable) and wet weather gear

• Suitable footwear for protection and wet muddy conditions

What is Raku?

Raku technique is when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in combustible material able to catch fire, like sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colours within the glaze. Watch your pieces transform when they cool down!
